Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-12-06 Summary: A natural tallent ... I am a huge fan of Jason Isbell's work in the Drive-By Truckers and was very disappointed to hear that he was leaving the band. But then his solo works started coming out. Jason's songs sound naturally musical. His songs can be viewed as simple, but they are simply brilliant in their simplicity and execution. Cigarettes and Wine is fantastic composition, among the best he's ever written, with great lyrics and tones of emotion and an innate musical sensibility (check out the video on youtube). It only has two chords, ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-03-26 Summary: So glad to see Jason moving in this direction ... One of my favorite bands for a long time was the Drive-By Truckers and I had the priviledge of seeing them live many times. I always loved Jason in that band. When he decided to go solo I was deservedly concerned. His first cd, Sirens of the Ditch, wasn't one of my favorites at all but now with the 400 Unit I am extremely happy. He has gone back to the type of music he wrote while he was in the truckers but I'd say with way more emotion and maturity. This is a fantastic cd and I'd recommend it to anyone. You can truly ...more

[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-10-13 Summary: If your a fan of Wm.Holden you'll like this movie. ... Wm.Holden is great in the role of a pilot and on a mission to bomb bridges is shot down in enemy terretory . Mickey Rooney is very funny in his role as a helicopter flyer who rescue downed pilots at sea. The ending to the story is sad as they are fired upon by Korean soldier's and consequently both of them die. ...more
Editorial Reviews ... Review | A powerful study of courage in the face of irrational odds, The Bridges at Toko-Ri (based on James Michener's novel) is no less patriotic than many other war films, but it dispenses with gung-ho bluster to focus instead on the very real and tragic consequences of war. This is also one of the first films to openly criticize the morality of the Korean War while praising the honor and integrity of the men who fought it. Lt. Harry Brubaker (William Holden) is one of those men, with one difference: A lawyer...more

The Journey of Natty Gann [VHS]
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-11-16 Summary: Outstanding Cameos Too! ... I haven't seen the DVD version, but I have seen the VHS original many many times. I agree with everything that's been said about the cinematography, score, storyline, realism and acting. This is a minor Disney masterpiece. Episodic? Not in the least. The characters grow and change along the way as the result of their adventures. It will make you cry and laugh and wonder a bit at the lives of children in Depression, so many of whom were actually abandoned by their desperate parents, unlike Natty. One thing no reviewer ...more

[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-01-09 Summary: Surprisingly fun. ... You wouldn't expect a little plastic car that can't out-race a normal walking pace would get kids so excited, but my daughter (nine) can't get enough of it, and even her older siblings try to wheedle turns. Something about the motion seems to satisfy on a visceral level. They warn against using it on hardwood floors, but it doesn't seem any more damaging than the normal wear and tear a house full of kids can inflict. ...more
